Headquartered in Edinburgh, Portland has a portfolio of five hotels across Scotland’s major cities and is currently structured as a Management Company providing services on an arm’s length basis to those properties, all currently owned by the group

Founded in 2001, we have a track record of turning round under performing hotels

Portland employs around 300 staff and whilst pragmatic and grounded, remains ambitious to grow

Alan Higgins  Director of Finance

Alan Higgins

Alan became involved in the hospitality sector in the mid 90’s after spells in business services and audit with Pannell Kerr Forster and as financial director with an IT manufacturer and service provider. From 1994-2004 Alan held various senior financial positions with Maclay Brewers as director and company secretary; MacDonald Hotels plc as Financial Controller in charge of their managed contract division and British Trust Hotels as Director of Finance.

Alan joined Portland Hotels in 2004 as Group Financial Controller, assuming therole as Finance Director during 2006. In addition to core financial management skills Alan has experience of business acquisitions and integrations, business efficiency processes, supply chain management, financial modelling including budgeting and forecasting and the treasury function. Alan is an Fellow of BAHA, holds a Bachelor of Accountancy degree from the University of Glasgow and has successfully completed the 2008 Key Executives Programme at Harvard Business School
